Currently, I have
  • 6 spinach plants
  • 6 "Asian green" plants (looks like pac choi or possibly a bok choi variant)
  • 6 red leaf lettuces
  • 6 red leaf romaine lettuces
  • 4 pots-worth of arugula (it looked like multiple plants/pot)
  • a ginger plant*
  • 7 basil plants
  • a middling pot of chives*
  • many many fledgling morning glories*
  • rosemary*
  • French lavender*
  • common thyme*
  • 4 olive tomato plants (supposed to be similar to grape tomatoes)

* overwintered or reseeded itself

I've transplanted everything that needed to be, and didn't quite run out of pots (though I may have to get some larger ones later in the season) or potting soil. I still have to figure out how to arrange them a bit more aesthetically, which would mean having room to sit on the porch as well.

I'm still debating getting more chives (can't have too many chives, after all). I'd like to find a quarter-circle metal shelving thing with graduated shelves for most of the herbs and salad greens, and possibly some window boxes (though I'm always concerned that they'll fall off onto someone's head.). I'm debating getting a wooden bench I saw at Tag's that looked like it would fit nicely. And there's the perennial thoughts about getting hanging flower baskets, to make things prettier. Hm.

In previous years, I've focused on tomatoes and herbs, figuring they were the best bang for the buck. This year I seem to have gravitated to leafy greens, which aren't so different from large herbs, after all. I wonder if I'd have room for another vegetable or two... which is useless to think about, since everything comes in six-packs, and the porch is so full already.

Not-so-confidential to Bbbsg: let's figure out when you can pick up the other two tomato plants.

Second thunderstorm of the day- how wonderful!

Got spare thyme or morning glories?

My thyme died over the winter. :-( So I was about to buy a new potted one. But if you're looking to divide your plant(s), I'd be happy to take some off your hands!

Similarly, the bikeway garden uses morning glories to cover the fence each year, but they don't seem to have come up, at least yet. If you have extras, I'll give them a happy home where hundreds of people see them daily!

I don't know if I have too many morning glories; they're just starting still (mostly in the first-two-butterfly-leaves stage). I could definitely give you some, though it probably won't be as many as you'd want. And if you help me divide the thyme, you're welcome to some of that as well.

Travel's a good reason for a delay, as long as the travel isn't delaying... :-)

This evening I'm out. Tomorrow's a lot more likely.

Sure. I have a last round of groceries to get, then I think I'm in for a while (doing the last minute rush of cooking :-).

I called and got a machine-voice for voice mail; it only occurred to me later that I might've misdialed...

And I'm sorry to hear about your unemployment; I hope it turns out to be an opportunity for good change.
