I was picking up two shares on foot, and foolishly didn't bring a backpack, so everything was in handle bags. This meant that a couple of times I chose the lighter option, which was good, because twice this not optimally packaged was just about at the limit of what I could carry over a mile.

  • three pounds of carrots
  • a pound and a half of red onions
  • two Gilfeather rutabagas
  • a third of a pound of meslun mix
  • a bag of frozen halved peaches
  • two bags of mixed sprouts (looks like lentil and chickpea, possibly other things)
  • four dried hot peppers (cayenne?)
  • half a gallon of unpasteurized cider
  • half a pint (eight ounces) of maple syrup from Ripley Farm in Montague*
  • a choice of wild blueberry spread or blueberry-apple juice from Benson Place (I chose jam over juice for weight)*
  • a dozen eggs
  • five pounds of whole wheat flour or two pounds of buckwheat flour from Upinngil (I chose buckwheat, partly for weight, partly for novelty, since whole wheat flour is more easily acquired)

* Anyone want these?

This is the last pickup of the season, nothing more until June. I know I'll have to supplement with fresh produce, but it's going to be interesting to see how much, seeing how much I've put aside for the farm share hiatus. Pickles and chutney I likely have enough of (well, I can always use more chutney, but whatever), frozen things less so. Maybe next year I'll figure out how to pack the freezer more efficiently, to fit more fresh-frozen vegetables, rather than already processed stuff.

eta Shabbat food this week:
  • roasted chickpeas, carrots, and golden beets with cumin and salt
  • turkey soup from Thanksgiving
  • sauteed red onion, red cabbage, and apple slices with a sliced chicken breast and vinegar left over from some beet pickles
  • Taza chocolate-covered almonds (courtesy Fetteredwolf and The_meanwhile)

We would happily take the maple syrup and the blueberry jam off your hands.

Cool.

Any chance I could get some onions in exchange?

Depends on how local you want the onions to be - a lot of my onions are not that local. But yes, I can trade onions. What kind?

They don't need to be local, just onions. Preference for yellow, but any kind is better than none :-)

Sure thing. What date and time might work for you?

How does tonight look for you? Any time after 8?

Alas, children were obstreperous and wife was frazzled. Sorry. What does your schedule look like over the next couple of days?

Flexible during the days after tomorrow.

Well, I can come by either after dropping off my daughter at daycare on Tuesday morning, sometime after 9AM, or drop by after school - by, say, 4PM. Calendar's clear, I can do that.

A thought occurs to me: would you be interested in seeing the little redheads sometime this week for an hour or two? Their daddy would be with them; regardless, it is OK to say No.

Tuesday, earlier is better. Other days, either is fine, or bringing the kids with.
