My apartment has been consistently 63 for about the couple of days or so (I don't remember exactly when I noticed). The thermostat is not set for 63; I have it a bit cooler for sleeping and a bit warmer when I'm home and awake.

One theory is that it's the thermostat. Another theory is that the pilot light on the gas furnace in the basement blew out (the gas to the stove is fine, so it's not outside the building). Logically, I should check the furnace to see if the pilot light is on, light it if not, and get new batteries/new thermostat if it is.

However.

We've been having the basement remediated for mold, and the whole level is blocked off with plastic sheeting. No way to tell what's going on down there. (No way to do laundry in the building either, but that's less of an issue just now.)

I can usually deal with a bit of chill, but I'm finding it hard to deal with being cold and being annoyed at the damned alarm that's still going off next door. I hate feeling like I need to leave my home.

At least I won't freeze, even if I am cold. (I'm assuming I'm stealing the downstairs neighbors' heat as it rises to stay this warm). On second thought, I don't know that it's 63; all I know is that the theromostat says it is. And if it's the source of the trouble, then it's not necessarily reliable about the temperature, either.... Feh.

I wish I knew what happened to the fingerless gloves I used to have.

My downstairs neighbors can hear it too; we were just commiserating.

Their theory: it might be a smoke alarm saying it needs new batteries. I'm not so sure about that, since I've heard it a number of times. And the batteries must be Energizers; I can just picture that annoying bunny... Anyway, when the neighbors get home (tomorrow, I assume; I hope they're not out of town for the week!), I'm going to very politely yet very firmly tell them that if they can't disable the noise of whatever-it-is, they can't use it again. This is not the first time I've heard it overnight; it's just the first time it's been all weekend.

I suppose we could call a locksmith, but I really don't want to deal with the neighbors if we did; it would mean a new lock, since it's a deadbolt (or at least, that's what happened when I was locked out of mine, and I think they have the same kind of lock).
