Sunday CBD
Jan. 27th, 2004 01:12 pmSunday started with cooking, making a vegan chocolate cake and some gingerbread, as well as a casserole using up a bunch of leftovers.
The baked goods were then brought to Bitty's birthday brunch, which was fun. Lots of food, lots of people, including some I haven't seen in person in a while. I got to play some euchre, talk with many, play with fringes for posterity (Do I really look that goofy?), and have my picture taken (though not in the cemetery, which would've looked much more interesting). Apparently I missed a lot more fun by leaving early.
Which I did to go to a Dresden Dolls concert at the Middle East. There were four bands in the lineup, starting with Lycaon Pictus, which had some interesting sounds, along with excellent vocals (Side note: the name is apparently also an African hunting dog). They were followed by SNMNMNM, which had the advantage of interesting instruments (accordion and euphonium), but were unfortunately extremely uninteresting. The third band was World/Inferno Friendship Society, which had nine (!) members on stage (3 saxes, 2 drum kits, 2 guitars, keyboard/accordion, and vocalist (Is accordion coming into fashion or something?)). I enjoyed the music, though at times it was hard to make out the lyrics.
And then the Dresden Dolls came on. And they were just as good as I'd thought at Arisia. I got the CD, and have been having ear worms all day. Though I could've done without the more vigorous of the dancing kids beside me, who seemed not to care if they banged into anyone around them.
