Bits and pieces
Jul. 28th, 2003 03:09 pmIt's another dragonfly summer. I keep seeing them outside my window, flying around, sometimes singly, sometimes in pairs. I find them fascinating, so beautiful with translucent wings and jewel-toned bodies. (Oh, and I got to see a blue one close up on the Cape, while it was resting in a thicket of beach roses.)
Porch update:
The nasturtuims haven't liked the weather; I think they've been drowned. Everything else is doing very well.
I'm still not sure what I'll do with the ginger plants (or when to unearth the root), but they keep growing into strong, rather bamboo-like shoots.
The newest addition seems to be a sweet potato that got out of control before I got around to eating it. The sprouts are much more interesting than what happens to white potatoes, being purpley and thinner, and already having leaves. I should give it some dirt and see what happens.
I check the morning glories most mornings, amazed at how much change there is day by day as each growing tip, fuzzy with nascent leaves, entwines its way up up up to the light. Farther down, the stem changes from green fuzzy to purple and less fuzzy, with what I suspect will be a flower bud by each heart-shaped leaf.
I got an email out of the blue, a friend who lives out of the country asking for my snail-mail address, wanting to invite me to his wedding! I'm so happy for him, though there's the littlest bit of regret; it's someone I crushed on for a while, who I've wondered about every so often... Anyway, the wedding is the first week in September, and I'm torn: do I go to the wedding, dealing with all the hassles of jet-lag and international travel, or do I go to the party a couple of weeks later in the Philly area? The advantages to Philly, other than less hassle, include that I'd likely be able to stay with college friends I haven't seen in a while, which would be nice. On the other hand, there's nothing like the wedding itself...
LJ is being wonky, and my friends page keeps changing, losing some people, finding others. It's annoying.
Macbeth always makes me wonder how the witches' prophecy would've come about had he not taken things into his own hands. Or rather, had Lady Macbeth not goaded him to do so. After all, the first part of the prophecy, that he would become Thane of Cawdor, came true without his having to do anything dishonorable, as a result of his bravery, in fact. Obviously, the telling of this prophecy changes the world to be a place where that prophecy comes true. Would it have happened had he not even been told? (not that this would've made a good play, but...)
Dinner delivery tomorrow night: sushi to Children's. I so wish that weren't the destination...
