This week was a very full box, and no lettuce! What a surprise.
  • 3 pounds of really cute tiny new red potatoes
  • 1 pound of little carrots
  • 1.5 pounds of summer squash
  • a biggish bunch of mizuna
  • a bunch of fennel, feathery tops still on
  • a bunch of cilantro
  • a bunch of parsley
  • a bunch of basil
  • a bunch of purslane
  • a cucumber
  • a head of red cabbage (some boxes had broccoli instead)
  • a thin purple eggplant

As usual, I gave the cilantro away at the drop-off site.
I have no idea what I'll use the purslane for, though the list of this week's produce notes that it can be used in salads or steamed. It's an interesting sort of leaf, more like a succulent than the more usual flat leaves.
Oh, and apparently there are pick-your-own cherry tomatoes at the farm this week, too. I may go Sunday morning to get some.

I'd be interested in the purslane recipes...It's growing like mad in my garden plot!

But how come you don't list the two heads of cabbage you snuck into my house last night? ;-)

Because those were from a previous week, actually.
Those are well-traveled cabbages, having gone to the Cape for a couple of days... :-)
And the other thing in with them is a garlic scape (I don't remember how many there are of them left in that bag). I find it useful for sautees and other cooked things, but the texture is too firm for salads.

You weren't kidding about food posts! ;)

If you ever need to unload cilantro, let me know. As far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as too much cilantro!

You're not the first to offer... the only problem is that to me, cilantro smells like rotting garbage. So I don't even want to bring it home to give to someone else, but offload it to another person getting farm veggies right at the pickup point.

Nope, not kidding about the food posts... but then, everybody eats, right? :-)
