Veggies, week 7
Jul. 23rd, 2003 08:42 amThis week was a very full box, and no lettuce! What a surprise.
As usual, I gave the cilantro away at the drop-off site.
I have no idea what I'll use the purslane for, though the list of this week's produce notes that it can be used in salads or steamed. It's an interesting sort of leaf, more like a succulent than the more usual flat leaves.
Oh, and apparently there are pick-your-own cherry tomatoes at the farm this week, too. I may go Sunday morning to get some.
- 3 pounds of really cute tiny new red potatoes
- 1 pound of little carrots
- 1.5 pounds of summer squash
- a biggish bunch of mizuna
- a bunch of fennel, feathery tops still on
- a bunch of cilantro
- a bunch of parsley
- a bunch of basil
- a bunch of purslane
- a cucumber
- a head of red cabbage (some boxes had broccoli instead)
- a thin purple eggplant

Date: 2003-07-23 06:04 am (UTC)Those are well-traveled cabbages, having gone to the Cape for a couple of days... :-)
And the other thing in with them is a garlic scape (I don't remember how many there are of them left in that bag). I find it useful for sautees and other cooked things, but the texture is too firm for salads.
