A Venus transit could be:
  • a celestial subway system, making sure planets and comets, meteors and suns, get to where they need to go, efficiently
  • a carnivorous plant dealer's arrangements for shipments
  • a tennis player's travel plans
  • a reference to some fly-by-night sex operation

Trader Joe's didn't have flexible cutting boards. I shall have to find one somewhere else. *sigh*

What is the difference between dried plums and prunes? I bought some dried plums a couple of days ago, and they are like other dried fruits (apricots, peaches, etc). Prunes are such a different sort of animal (as it were). Is it just which kind of plum used, or is there a different process, too?

I finally got to see Pheromone's new do. Really nice.

Spam subject line otD: Fifty Five Most Wanted
Since there was nothing in the body of the email, I'm left wondering: 55 most wanted what? Jobs? Flavors of ice cream? Toys? Bathroom accessories? How can they leave me hanging like this!?

Phrase otD: swallow with impudence

There's actually no difference. The California Plum Association (yes, there is such an organization) decided a while back (some time last year, I believe) that the term "prune" had negative associations and therefore they advocated for the change of designation from "prune" to "dried plum.

I thought I remembered reading that, and yet, the dried plums I've been eating at the office are distinctly *not* prunes...

IIRC, Prunes are a variety of plums, the way Granny Smiths are a variety of apple. (One can buy fresh prunes at farmer's markets, etc.) We in the US got so used to seeing 'dried prunes' that we eventually assumed the 'dried', I think.

I hadn't realized that. Thanks.

Do the supermarkets carry prune plums around here?

My guess would be "Iraqis", based on the large volume of spam I've received advertising those cards.

That makes sense. I'm still stuck in the "enhance your male anatomy" and "watch people do physical things" spam universes, so haven't gotten any more than this one, leaving me mystified.

Oh, I get those too. Sex in its various flavors, mortgages, theft (cable, DVDs), "business opportunities", and burning fat all seem to be about equally balanced in my current spam crop. But I've gotten several pieces about the cards in the last week or so, too.

1. Maybe it was supposed to be a list, 50 items in length, of "5 most wanted" lists?

2. *raises eyebrows* But I suppose that's better than "swallow with imprudence," right? . . . right?

1. Maybe. I suspect Cellio's theory is right. But it did give me time to wonder about it.

2. Er, yeah. This is definitely better. Yup.
*grin*

Give me back my brain!

That's really spooky. I thought the exact same thing.

But it's mine!

I bought a set of 4 flexible cutting boards, in 4 colors, at the Crate and Barrel in Harvard many moons ago, but they may still have them.

Thanks.

I have the idea I saw them recently somewhere else, too, and I can't remember where, possibly a supermarket.
