Upcoming events
May. 5th, 2003 10:08 amAs previously noted (here), I'm getting discounted tickets to the two Shakespeare productions at the Publick Theatre this summer. So far, Queue and Pheromone are definite yeses. Is anyone else interested? I'm planning to send in the form by the end of the week.
Also previously mentioned (here), there's a total lunar eclipse a week from Thursday (the 15th), visible through much of the eastern U.S. I'm hoping for clear skies.
More locally, the Radcliffe pottery show also starts Thursday the 15th, running through that Sunday. They ususally have some interesting pieces to look at, and there are snacks provided on Thursday, the opening. Seconds are put out on Sunday; there are huge lines then to get in. It's near the Harvard Stadium, but I can't seem to find a web site with more detailed directions.
I just got a listing of next season's Broadway in Boston shows. I'm not sure I'll end up at any of them (they're rather pricey...), but details are here, if anyone's interested.
(The lineup includes: The Lion King, Hairspray, Les Miserables, Def Poetry Jam, Urinetown, The Graduate, Movin' Out, Oklahoma!, As You Like It, Cirque Eloize, The Plough and the Stars, Porgy and Bess, and Stomp.)

Date: 2003-05-05 08:58 am (UTC)(I'm still stunned that, with my glasses on last night, I could see the whole outline of the moon and not just the cresent)
As to plays, Stomp rocks, and so does outdoor shakespeare. I'm flexiable as to events by date and reasonable number of folks in a crowd. (e.g. if you already have 4 people for one show, I could go to a different one.)
Re: labyrinth
Date: 2003-05-05 09:14 am (UTC)My impression is that light pollution isn't the same issue for lunar eclipses as it is for meteor showers, stuff like that. So right now I'm thinking that somewhere local, quiet, not incredibly lit would be fine, someplace nice to hang out after dark. After all, all I need to be able to see is the moon, and I can see that from the street in front of my house most of the time...
I agree that Stomp is wonderful (even if my seat was in the absolute back row of the balcony). Not sure that I want to see it again, though, and the schedule I got has tix ranging from $40.50 to $55... (July through Sept this year).
The Shakespeare tickets are basically passes to both of their shows, so people can choose whichever performances fit their schedule. I wasn't assuming that people I was arranging tickets for would necessarily choose to go to the same performances as me, though it would be nice if it works out that way.

Date: 2003-05-05 12:22 pm (UTC)Ordering the tix in advance means that I can choose at the last minute which performances work. Or you could get them the day of the performance, though it'll cost a bit more.

Date: 2003-05-05 10:16 am (UTC)For the BinB shows, I wasn't planning on organizing outings, actually. More a "this has been a public service announcement of" sort of thing. But you're welcome to the schedule I was sent, if you'd like to get some groups together.
Revision: I'm extremely unlikely to pay the prices listed (ranging from $40-$97) for more than a show or two; I'm much more likely to wait until Arts Mail offers them for a third to a half off, or see if I can get same day rush tix, or something like that.
I guess in general I'm pretty cheap, and I like things that are a bit more challenging than Oklahoma (for instance); I'd rather end up going to three off-beat, interesting, (more) low-budget, local theater productions than one big traveling extravaganza. I assume I'm not typical, though, otherwise they'd never sell any of those expensive tix...
Side note: most of these are at the Colonial, a few at the Wilbure, one each at the Majestic, the Opera House, and the Stuart Street Playhouse. None, thank goodness, at the too-huge-to-be-useful Wang.
