And so it begins
Mar. 3rd, 2003 07:05 amYesterday I was in Stop&Shop and they had already set up the kosher for Passover aisle. I expect that from the kosher market, I suppose, but not the regular supermarkets. It isn't even Adar 2 [1] yet!
And yet... I prefer not to end up getting groceries in a rush just before the holiday (there's plenty of cleaning to do then (if I can manage not to break this year), possibly cooking, etc.). Well, other than certain fridge items that don't last well. But the pantry items, definitely. It also means that I spread the cost of all the new/special food out a bit more.
So I bought my (machine) matza. It was on sale, $1/lb, which is pretty much the best price I'll find (before the holiday, that is). And I started thinking about what else is on my list. I thought I might've put last year's list in a post, but when I went looking, it wasn't there. And I remembered that typing was a bit of a pain last year when I would've put it in; I got reasonably quick with one hand, but it's still only one hand.
Off the top of my head, this is what I came up with. I'm sure I'll end up adding stuff, but at least I'm unlikely to forget these...

- matza
- quinoa
- cheese
- butter
- (new containers) salt, sugar, oil, vinegar
- (new containers) herbs, spices: rosemary, cinnamon, pepper, basil/oregano
- eggs
- nuts
- dried fruit
- tuna, whitefish salad
- mayo
- chocolate
- fruit juice
- tomato products (sauce/crushed/salsa)
- eggplant spreads
- fish/chicken/turkey
- fresh veggies (including potatoes, onions, carrots, salad greens, tomatoes, and whatever else looks yummy)
- fresh fruits (whatever looks nice)
[1] In the Jewish calendar, Adar is the month before Nisan, the middle of which is Passover (starting on the 15th). When there is a leap month, something like seven times every 19 years, designed to keep Passover in the spring, Adar is doubled. So this Tuesday is the last day of Adar 1, and Wednesday is the beginning of Adar 2, which is 45 days before Passover starts.

Date: 2003-03-03 06:44 pm (UTC)it is, however, about to be Lent. which means that Easter stuff is out. and as far as mainstream commercial America is concerned, it's all the same. just like Channukah and Christmas.
heh. I'm considering giving up something for Lent for the first time in, oh, 20 years or so. but not for religious reasons. I figure I, too, can join the
starvingdedicated masses and try and lose weight. I'm going to challenge my gramma - if she can give up coffee for Lent, I'll give up dessert. she'll be thrilled; I'll be thinner.I dunno. I want/need to lose some weight/get back into shape, but I need some motivation. I feel like a set challenge to go along with will help. Lent is conveniently located.
Or I could suck it up and allow
Passover / Easter
