phrases that caught my eye today:
Frederick's of gingerbread
gum blobs

Why does some food have strings (ie celery, bananas)? What purpose do the strings serve, anyway? And while I'm wondering, what purpose does fuzziness serve fruits? (The only fuzzy foods I can think of (well, barring mold-encrusted stuff, of course) are apricots, peaches, and kiwis.)

Glad it was warm enough to snow last night; wouldn't mind if it stayed that warm...

Must find another lemon curd recipe to try; the texture is definitely wrong on this first batch. Ah, well.

I didn't like the one from Rosie's (Bakery) cookbook. Just as a datapoint.

Thanks. Did you not like the flavor or the texture? I'd be happy using the recipe I used last night - the online version of the Betty Crocker recipe - except that it lacked enough detail about cooking temp/time, which is where I went wrong, I think.

You know, you could have called to get the Betty Crocker recipe.

I'm not sure what didn't work in the online version. If you want to email me the print version, that's cool.

I also found a couple of permutations online that I may try (one of which is nondairy, and uses the microwave. I'm a bit sceptical, but I might try it for the lactose intolerant among my friends. Sadly, no vegan ones. Though if there are reasonable egg substitutes, it might work...).

the texture. the flavor wasn't fabulous, but it wasn't terrible, either.

(i find her cookbooks hit or miss as well.)

When I went looking through my cookbooks the other day, I couldn't find a single recipe. Perhaps this is an indication of needing more cookbooks...

[livejournal.com profile] bubblebabble doesn't think we need more cookbooks. But, they're books! With perks! Food! Food porn! I mean, yay!

He doesn't think you need more cookbooks, or he doesn't think there's *room* for more cookbooks? Seems obvious that you would be very happy with more cookbooks...

I recently (well, okay, 2 months ago) cleared out more room for cookbooks. There's no excuse.

Frederick's of gingerbread

I wondered if you saw that when I read that this morning. You know, a gingerbread person decorating party would be a neat idea.

So, do you know any gingerbread persons we could decorate? (My acquaintance seems to be exclusively flesh and blood... :-)

I hear they hang out with the Lollipop Kids.

What kind of voices do they have?

I read that as vices.

And then promptly went blank on any good follow-ups.

Must've been overload, 'cause I know there's tons out there.

Maybe tomorrow I'll be evil.

Well, the obvious gingerbread/vice comment is a Shrek allusion.

Well, perhaps that would be obvious to someone who has actually seen the movie. Since I do not fall into that category, this is a somewhat opaque reference to me.

!!!! Don't let [livejournal.com profile] bubblebabble find out, otherwise he may remedy that ;)

and wouldn't a gingerbread person's voice be tender and crisp?

faked, of course. you'd need to use margarine instead of butter to make them pareve, and that's certainly not a well-bred ginger man/woman.

we wouldn't want to dream of suggesting that you were faking anything else.

It would be, but I am far too lazy to make the huge numbers of cookies-in-a-specific-shape involved (Heck, I'm usually too lazy to make cookies at all.).

I'm much more likely to have a make your own pizza party, or a top your own potato party.
Dang. Now I want pizza.

Topping someone else's potato might be skirting the boundaries of consensuality a little too closely.

But if he was a real spudmuffin...
