[local eating] Farm share (week 11), etc.
Aug. 18th, 2010 07:55 pm- a bunch of collards
- one and a half pounds of white onions
- a pound of carrots
- a pound of summer squash
- a bunch of basil
- two green bell peppers
- a quarter pound of hot peppers (I chose a variety, from a long thin red kind to what might be Godzilla jalapenos)
- a pint of tomatoes (some heirloom varieties)
- a stalk of broccoli
- a pound of wax beans (green beans having vanished before I got there)
And no lettuce, for which I'm grateful, actually: I just finished last week's lettuce in this morning's salad (whereas I can get through an almost infinite number of cherry tomatoes...).
First thoughts: saute the collards with some onions and a bit of carrot, plus some kind of spicy dressing, perhaps with ground turkey; roast the summer squash with basil and a tomato; roast or pickle the carrots and the beans; hot pepper jelly for all the peppers (though I suspect I have too many hot peppers, especially once I include the ones from the porch); tomato-feta salad.
Yesterday I deposited checks from the insurance company before going to redeem my car, and was surprised to find that the ATM had been changed. There's no longer an envelope to put checks in. Instead, each check is sucked in and scanned, verifying the value on screen, with an image of the check included on the paper receipt. It makes a lot of sense, what with saving paper, and likely fewer errors keying in amounts as well. Have these kind of ATMs been around for a while and I just missed them, or is this a new thing in the area?

Date: 2010-08-19 04:04 am (UTC)How do you make your lettuce last?
Hot pepper jelly!
Those ATMs have been around for maybe a year or so.
Sorry about whatever happened to your car. Hope you are okay.

Date: 2010-08-19 04:13 am (UTC)The car's fine, and the friend who was driving is fine, and no one else was involved, so it's all worked out in the end, though it was Yet Another Thing to Cope With (now replaced with something else, unfortunately).
