Yesterday I was at an NCTM conference. As directed by the head of the department, I spent most of the time by the booth, talking with teachers, after scouting the vendor area, which wasn't large, at all. Amazingly, I got into the swing of it, had a reasonably good time, except when we were trying to avoid the pigeons... it felt rather like Costco.
The one session I did go to was by one of our authors, one I'd visited in NH years ago, for a math day. He's a really motivated teacher, and it shows. The room was overflowing, completely a fire trap. But, hey, there was alcohol on fire, and the phrase of the day: "triangle underwear."
It was odd being at the Park Plaza hotel with all these teachers around. So mundane, compared to the last time I was there, for Arisia. I noticed that teachers are much less likely to take the stairs...
I managed a fairly long visit to Avenue Victor Hugo, but, like Bitty, kept purchases low. I now also have a copy of Hoyle's... who wants to play cards at my house?
There's a great variety of buses out there. The one I took from Central to Watertown Sq. Wednesday was very new, had automated everything, even all the stops announced by computer, the time flashing in between. The one I took this morning from Harvard to Watertown Sq. had almost no amenities. Luckily, I'm now reasonably familiar with the routes by now, and for some of them, am going to the terminus, which is never tricky.
