Email from the head of the department: meet at 2 in the big conference rooms. Very mysterious.

The meeting: speeches of thanks, marking partway through the production of 7 math books at once (do not try this at home), appreciation from the field and the higher-ups; snacks (non-kosher, of course); and a t-shirt, green on white, a dragon (taken from the last DK spread in geometry), with a background of mathy symbols, some cute rah-rah phrases about teamwork below. Still, I'll take it. Strangely, the only sizes were S-M-L. There are guys (well, and me) who would've taken XL...

If I remember it correctly, it's a pretty cool dragon.

It sounds like I'll be getting a McDougal Polo shirt, fallout from the winter sales meeting. I think free shirts are a good thing.

Speaking of shirts, I still owe you a Boggle champion shirt. We should go shopping for a nice shirt to put the design onto.

It is a cool dragon, though less impressive in one color rather than four. Also issues of looking bit-mapped on a t-shirt... the glossy paper on the spread is perhaps more suited, though I think this is the best image for a t-shirt from that set of spreads (even if it isn't, as someone pointed out, actually a DK piece).

I'm trying to figure out how many free t-shirts I've gotten from work... how many weeks I could go without official business clothes... A polo shirt is prolly more useful for this, though.

Chicken and egg: easier to design the pattern or find the shirt first?

Heh. As you might imagine, having met me, I NEVER get cool promo t-shirts from anyone in my size. Every now and then I ask them if they can come up with a 4XL but they always look at me like I'm crazy. :)

The only 4X t-shirts I have I got freshman year in college (and wore as mini-dresses, for a Magenta outfit (still have them, too, now faded to a thin comfy grey from the original black))... not easy to find, indeed, and I'd think it would be impossible for swag; they just cater to a narrower range.

I can sometimes find 4XL at SF conventions, where they expect to cater to a slightly larger number of slightly larger people. :) As swag, nope. The closest I ever got a swag shirt that fit me was a 3XL shirt from Ascend. But I prefer my clothes a little looser than that.

My company actually gets clothes in your size if you let your supervisor know what your size is.
