I got home from work rather tired, but after a little down time managed to get moving again.

I made Thai basil rice noodles with vegan pesto provided by Queue, and used up the end of a disappointing cinnamon-raisn bobke in a cinnamon-raisin bread pudding that smelled great, but turned out to be eggier than I like in a bread pudding, sort of halfway to a quiche. The noodles were good, though.

A couple of rounds of Battle Line (the *other* current game obsession) before a couple of friends came over to use my sukkah for their dinner. They had brought everything with them, rather impressive. And they appreciated the amenities of my sukkah, which last night included a view of the neighbor on the second floor (now determined to be female) who has taken up the accordion, in addition to the accordion serenade. Not sure if she's the one who plays the flute, too, though I haven't heard the instruments together.

Queue and I went to In the Blood, a play by (award-winning playwright) Suzan-Lori Parks, the first play of the Brandeis season. It was intense, the story of a homeless mother of 5 kids (ages 2-13), living under a bridge, trying to "get a leg up" and make a better life for her kids.

The set was impressive: a sweep of "metal" girders above to set the scene, a shack covered by cloth off to one side, chain-link fence behind, a bench car seat, a barrel with a "fire" in it, a grate atop it. And the sides of the theater were used, too, with graffiti continued up on the (brick) walls, and the preacher's church signs on one side.

The lighting was really good, too, from the "fire" in the barrel, to the changing light under the bridge, to the "church windows" pattern on the floor, and the "A" (Scarlet Letter, anyone?) and "slut" on the walls at different times, in addition to the usual spots, etc.

All the actors except the lead played one of the kids and some other adult; that worked pretty well. A fair number of sexualized scenes, and some really depressing people-users, all around. I don't doubt that there are people like these, but I don't have to deal with them very much, so it is painful to see. The acting was good, many of the actors ones I've seen in other Brandeis productions.

And then we walked back to the car... and Queue found that one of the rear tires was flat. He changed it for the donut in the trunk, much more efficiently than I could've managed. Still, a later night than I'd hoped for.

I got to hear oh-so-briefly that Charliegrrl's performance went well, when she and Cthulhia and A passed us on the street. I like having neighbors I know...
