Brandeis Theater
Sep. 19th, 2002 04:04 pmFor the last 5 years or so, I've gotten season subscriptions to the productions of the Brandeis theater department. I've seen some interesting plays, some plays I haven't cared for, some in-between. Overall, I'm usually impressed with the staging of the play, even if I don't care for the play itself.
I just got this year's tix (a 2nd year without a Shakespeare play. *Sigh*). If anyone is interested in going to one of these, the box office number is 781 736 3400... If you go on a Tuesday (the preview night), I can meet you there (um, unless I change nights for that play).
[I think each of these has a one-week run (they've been cutting back, both in number of plays and length of run... :-( ). The date I give is the Tuesday preview night.]
In the Blood, Sept 24
The Laramie Project, Oct 22
Love for Love, Nov 12
Animal Farm, Feb 11
[New play; something not yet written by a resident playwright], Mar 18
Agamemnon and His Daughters, Apr 1
There's a performance of Alice in Wonderland by the National Marionette Theatre sometime in the spring, but that's a separate deal. Haven't gone, no recommendations.
Also included in a subscription is a StageSource "circle of friends" card. This gives me a twofer at a bunch of theaters once a year. There's way too many to list, but includes a lot of the local smaller theaters (some of which I'd not heard of before), plus a couple in Worcester (Scholargipsy....?), north and south shores, out on the Cape, one in NH.

Date: 2002-09-20 06:15 am (UTC)I've only used this once or twice in all the years I've gotten them, but the general idea is that you call the theater, find out what their policy is for using this pass, then, I think, (borrow my pass) bring it with you when you get the tix, if they say they need to see it and/or cross off that theater from the pass (since it's once/year/pass).
The things I remember seeing in Worcester were more on the crowd-pleasing end of things, but were decent productions, at least (I saw Noises Off! for the first time at Foothills, and totally cracked up.).

Date: 2002-09-20 07:39 am (UTC)(a) going to work late (for me), go to Brandeis for dinner and the play, then head home (Cambridge)
or
(b) having dinner at home, then to the play from there (or the Diesel), home after.
If you'd be willing to drop me off at home after, I'd go for option (b).
