Yesterday was a mental health day. I'm still amazed at all the time there is when that work-thing isn't happening (though I suspect that this was so precisely because there was that contrast. If I had a bunch more free daytime hours, I'd probably fritter them away playing Lost Cities or something equally productive.).

I finally got to walk in the park by the intersection of Routes 28 and 16, though it was hot enough that I didn't explore as fully as I might've.

Over to Boston Common, where I waded in the Frog Pond for the first time. No, I don't know why the frog reference in the name. It was fun, just having my feet in the water, and watching all the kids playing. The pavement was hot from the sun, though, so I slightly burned the sole of one foot before I got my sandals back on. On to the Public Garden, watching all the avian life: not only the usual pigeons, Canada geese, and ducks, but a swan as well (only one, as far as I could see). And there were some baby ducks in there, too. The birds kept following the swan boats, for the bread the tourists kept feeding them, and I was amazed at how quickly some of the ducks managed to sort of walk across the water (hm.... duck worship possibilities...? nah.).

Book browsing at two different stores, one new, one used (the books in the stores, that is), both independent, yielded a couple of books I'm going to try as vacation reading. I was impressed that Brookline Booksmith has Lost Cities and other German games for sale...

I saw Y Tu Mama Tambien (sp?) at the Coolidge Theater. Interesting movie, though I admit to wondering about the subtitle accuracy at times. In general, I thought the translator went for the feel of the words, rather than a literal translation, which is great, but there were those moments of untranslated speech (possibly 'cause Spanish is wordier?) that tended to leave me wondering. I was also entertained that I got to see the movie in a nice huge theater... with three other people there.

It was also a day of not cooking for myself, getting food out: donuts for breakfast, a caesar salad with tuna wrap at the Milk St. Cafe for lunch, and dinner at Taam China (I hadn't tried their scallion pancakes before. Yummy.). As usual when going to one of the limited number of kosher restaurants, there were people I knew at both of them. There are advantages to going to New York for dinner....

Just one short day here at work, then off to Duck! Sunday.

I really enjoyed that movie. It was kind of like a coming-of-age picaresque with liberal dollops of Amelie and Wings of Desire. And that last sex scene was pretty hot. :)
