Dinner on a warm night
Jul. 9th, 2002 01:47 pm(How can I not have written much about food in the last week? No, I'm not ill, just been busy enough that either it was quick pickup food, or eating out/at friends'... (Really, no one else seems to be quite as food-obsessed as I am. I should think about this sometime.))
It was just warm enough last night that I didn't want to spend too much time applying heat to food, and I definitely didn't want to use the oven (so much for a quick batch of bread). I started with a salad, a mix of the three kinds of lettuces I got from the farm last week, some basil, a minced garlic scape, some thinly-sliced radiccio, and pine nuts, with olive oil and balsamic vinegar (I need to get some more of this. I've been using it a lot on salads.).
I made rice, and a stir-fry-esque sautee of veggies to top it, with most of the veggies either from the farm or the Brookline farmers' market (I'm still surprised they had it last Thursday). I used onions, another garlic scape, a small head of cauliflower, a bunch of not-quite-baby bok choy, carrots, halved sweet peas in the pod, extra firm tofu cubed and marinated in soy sauce. I added ground pepper, hot pepper oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, and ginger powder (yes, I was feeling lazy. At least I added a lot of it...).
It felt good to make something that I was both in the mood to eat and relatively healthy, as well.
Thoughts of sorbet were contemplated, but in the end, left for another day.
