Farm share week 9, mushroom share week 11
Aug. 13th, 2019 10:35 pm- a watermelon
- a cantaloupe
- a bunch of sage
- three leeks
- a dozen field tomatoes
- two green bell peppers, two long red corno di toro peppers, and three fresno hot peppers
- thirteen medium-small orange carrots
- two zucchini and two summer squashes (none large)
- nine pickling cucumbers
- lion's mane mushrooms (YAY! one of my favorites!)
Of note: NO lettuce! I like lettuce, but two enormous heads a week has been hard to keep up with, so I'm glad of a respite.
I'm both hosting and delivering Shabbat dinner this week. First thoughts for using things is to cook chicken with the sage (maybe also a combination of interesting bread, onions, and mushrooms); Israeli salad; roasted zucchini/squash and tomatoes; possibly a watermelon-mint salad (but without feta, if serving at dinner, so maybe just serve the melon as melon). Maybe cook the peppers with some of the tomatoes in a basic sauce? Might use the leeks and carrots in a soup, if the weather cools off enough. Or saute some with the lions mane and eat all by myself :-)
