Friday night I got to watch a bike parade go by the house, with costumes, lights, and music. I don't know why it made me so happy to watch, but it did. I wish it weren't the last of the "late" Shabbatot; the time change always comes when Shabbat is at the right time, not so early that Friday is rushed, but early enough that there's time for Saturday night plans. And then the clock change messes me up.

Sunday was the first snow of the season, and while it didn't stay, it definitely stuck for a bit; the bitter winds were definitely a wake-up call. Luckily I took the window fan out that morning!

Monday I got to crack my first puddle-ice of the season (still wearing sandals :-). I also finally figured out that the construction on Western Ave. includes a cycle track. The street will lose a lane (though I don't know whether commuters will notice, since at that point it will feel like an increase from one lane to two, instead of a decrease of three to two, given how construction has messed up traffic patterns), and the cycle track is on sidewalk level, between parked cars and the trees along the street, which seems like a good place.

Today: I voted, #502 at my polling place at 11:15 A.M. It seems like there's a reasonable turnout for this battle to the bottom election for governor.

Pico review: Trader Joe's brand pumpkin Greek-style yogurt: thumbs up. Not excessively sweet, it would be great on pumpkin pie instead of whipped cream, if that's something you do.

The green line has started having tracking, but only partially (the west/south above-ground portions for now).

This Saturday there's a one-day origami conference at MIT. Alas, it's on Shabbat, so I won't be going.

Last week I went to a lecture on the history of New England cooking, titled "Puritans and Pumpkin Pies, Brahmins and Baked Beans: New England Cooks Up the American Diet", presented by Keith Stavely and Kathleen Fitzgerald, who in addition to having co-written two books about food in New England (America's Founding Food: The Story of New England Cooking and Northern Hospitality: Cooking by the Book in New England) co-write a blog at their site, http://www.stavelyandfitzgerald.com/.
