Monday night I got to see a lovely new show, Trial By Audience (Rebecca Graber & Christopher Snyder) put on by the MIT Gilbert & Sullivan Players. It was excellent, though I regret to admit I am not as familiar with the whole canon as I would like, so some references went by me.
The frame story is about Sir Gilbert put on trial for crimes such as silly plot twists, self-plagiarization, and demeaning people such as women and soldiers. There were lots of songs (natch), many with bits of actual G&S in them, and sometimes other things as well (a certain Elements Song worked in with some of the Modern Major General's accomplishments, for example). I was also very amused by the mathematical proof about love and marriage. In short, a good evening's entertainment.
