[BRC] City map
Aug. 22nd, 2012 08:21 amEvery year, the concentric Black Rock City ring roads are named in alphabetical order based on the theme, with radial roads on the hour and half hour (from 2 to 10). Looking at this year's map*, the ring roads are all flowers (well, except for the innermost road, which is always Esplanade): Alyssum (I've already seen it spelled "Asylum" at least once), Begonia, Columbine, Dandelion, Edelweiss, Foxglove, Geranium, Hyacinth, Iris, Jasmine, Kingcup, Lilac. What would you think the theme is, based on this? Would you think ( redacted so you can play at home. ) Not at all what I would have expected. I mean, I like flowers, it's all good, but a bit odd, since I don't think of them in that way, particularly.
Also noted when looking at the map: there are radial roads on the quarter hours from Geranium to Lilac, which makes sense because the blocks get far too long otherwise. There are neighborhoods that lack either Foxglove or Edelweiss, which seems a bit odd. I mean, sure, for the vehicles of DPW, or a larger block for a family-friendly area, but there are eight such blocks (I think I'd avoid walking Edelweiss of Foxglove very much). Interestingly, when I zoomed in, I noticed faint shades of streets N and M on the map. I'm not sure whether that's a just-in-case people spread out so much we need more room, or somehow planning for a future year.
* Parts of the map shaded in purple are where camps were given placement in advance, while white means the area is up for grabs, whoever pitches their tent first.
