Wednesday, an Aussie brought some TimTams in to the Asylum, saying he'd offer me one but they weren't kosher. I went looking, online, and found that as of this May, the Australian TimTams are kosher! So of course, I had one, and it's lovely, though I hear it's even better after being briefly used as a straw for coffee (perhaps hot chocolate would work for me, since I am not a member of the coffee nation). Yay for new kosher things!

Yesterday, someone came into the Asylum with what looked like it might be materials for fermenting liquids. I was totally wrong, as he described how he was going to make something to adsorb air. Apparently, it's efficient to use zeolite, a rock that adsorbs air, in a container at 500 psi, instead of compressing the air to thousands of psi directly. Which is pretty cool.

I've been using the tail ends of yarn left over after projects to make little individual 'doodles,' which I keep together, and someday hope to put together into a project, perhaps a sweater or other kind of outer layer. I imagine something that will be interesting, and somehow more coherent than true crazy quilt style. Someday...

Farmers' market bounty: local corn, eggplants, Roma tomatoes, a ginger gold apple, and a honeydew! It's particularly exciting because most places around here don't grow them, so while I can get lots of local watermelon and cantaloupe, I'd not seen honeydew before. I'm looking forward to having it on Shabbat (though part of me wants to use some of it in a honeydew liqueur experiment). I ran out of time to roast the eggplant (roasted veggies I always make pareve, but I needed the oven for a chicken dish), so they're sauteeing with the two tomatoes that didn't fit into the pint jars once I'd skinned and shmushed the for canning (I thought I had more than two pints worth of tomatoes, but they do squish down. Ah, well.). Tomatoes are so much easier to peel than peppers! I will be much less intimidated by the process in future. And I'm going to cut the corn off the cob to put with some grape tomatoes in a salad.
