Short stuff
Nov. 30th, 2011 12:42 pmMy newest hat, called black hat dreaming of blue scarf:
I pinned some black netting around it to become part of a costume for a steampunk v. cyberpunk party this weekend. I'd originally thought to decorate a brown hat, but somehow, black and blue became my colors for the night.
(Really, Gmail, you know cyberpunk, but not steampunk? (Nor Gmail, for that matter :-))
There was some extra gaming this weekend, and during one of the breaks, the song "Like a G-6" came on. I finally asked what a G-6 actually is; for the other person who didn't know, it's not a super-fast computer, but a personal jet.
And apparently, I live in a very small box.
[Inspired by this self-descriptive XKCD t-shirt, I posted to Facebook:]
"This status update has 73 letters and 13 numbers. It is 76.0% letters, 13.5% numbers, and 10.4% punctuation marks."
Food notes: I just finished a small batch of garlic liqueur, which I'm hoping will mellow some in a few weeks. Otherwise, I suspect it'll be most useful as part of a cold remedy (perhaps with ginger syrup).
And I finally peeled and cut up the 20 pounds of apples I got at the last Davis Square farmers market to make applesauce. The Macs cooked down quickly, but the Splendors took a lot longer to break down (they seemed to be drier as well as having more structural integrity), so the batch cooked down slowly all days yesterday, for canning today (after more hours of cooking slowly). I ate a couple of bowls yesterday as it cooked, and had 5 pints, 10 half pints (read: I've run out of pint jars again; if anyone has empties they're not using, I'd use them!), and 1 quarter pint canned of thick brown applesauce.

The vegan Pulse Cafe in Davis Square closed, but has posted many of their recipes.
I didn't use, but was intrigued by, the NY Times recipe for roasting turkey in under an hour (short version: take out the breast bone).
Also in the harvest theme, a recipe for pareve cranberry cake with ginger.
Had I ended up with more unripe tomatoes, I could have made unripe tomato ketchup.

Inanimate Incarnate (which is a fabulous name :-).
Encanti's soundcloud.
A browncoat rap.

The Star Wars Day of the Dead.
And related to that, abone and flower font [dang, that link seems to have expired; it was cool, and I don't have any way to find it again with an anonymous string of gobbledygook after the tumblr info in the address).
