There's a lot of new options this year with Red Fire Farm.

  1. There are new distribution locations in metro Boston. In addition to the Wednesday distributions in Somerville (the Growing Center, 4-7), Cambridge (Harvest; and a later time than before, 4:30-7:30, which is most excellent), and JP (Harvest, 3-6:30), there are two new Friday distribution locations, at MIT (precise location TBA, 3-6:30) and Brighton (Whole Foods on Washington St., 3:30-7). It's only the Friday distribution locations that will have the winter share, so I have to let the farm know I'll be picking up at MIT for those. (And of course, I wonder whether there would've been more religious Jews getting a farm share in Brighton were it not an erev Shabbat distribution.)

  2. There are new possible permutations to the share. Not only is there a 20-week fruit share option, there's also a 10-week flower share option (some people are subletting part of Red Fire Farm, calling themselves the Moon Flower Farm Project). And in metro Boston they're offering home delivery by the New Amsterdam Project, by tricycle! (Only in certain ZIP codes: 02138, 02139, 02140, 02141, 02143, 02130, 02134, 02135.) They only mention the regular and the summer seasons, but what would be of most use to me would be to have the winter share delivered (see erev Shabbat). I should ask if that's a possibility...

Small box, one third fruit.
  • a bunch of collard greens
  • a bunch of broccoli
  • two zucchini
  • seven medium yams
  • a purple-top turnip
  • four yellow onions
  • a one and half pound bag of red-skinned fingerling potatoes
  • two tangerines

And a dozen eggs. But the three oranges that were supposed to come aren't here. Another email...
