Some of the plants in my office weren't so happy yesterday morning; I need to douse them more before the weekend, and maybe leave water in the trays, too.

On the up side, the lettuces are now very happy, with lots of leaves. I think there's a salad in my future today, lest things get out of hand. Interestingly, the red leaf lettuce at home has very reddish leaves, whil the ones in the office are merely tinged with red, though they came from the same flat. I wonder if the window glass filters out some kind of light that triggers more redness or something.

Oh, and I noticed that the nasturtium in the office, while a completely wacky shape (some stems straight up, while most are more horizontal), has buds on it. Flowers soon!

(The plants must look nice: I've had a couple of bumble bees trying to get in already.)

Current Mood: joy from very sweet grape tomatoes

Word of the day: luff

No, not as in lisping declarations of passion, but a sailing term, definitions here. The other sides of some kinds of sail are the leech and the foot.

I made a couple of things:
  • roasted onions, potatoes, and sweet potatoes, with rosemary
  • spicy eggplant mush
  • onion-mushroom-red pepper-scallion frittata
  • salad (greens from the porch and office supplemented with halved grape tomatoes and pine nuts), dressed with balsamic
  • melon to start

The rest of the melon has become smaller almost-spheres, joining the end of the strawberries in the fridge.

And so this isn't a totally boring entry for those reading:
a seven book series about snakes: herpetology heptology
