Last night I heard (well, saw, but the staging was so minimal and the language so compelling that heard is much more correct) Under Milk Wood (Dylan Thomas), put on by the Poets' Theatre as the first of their newest incarnation.

I didn't know much about the show beforehand, other than the friend with the comps loves it, and I now agree with his opinion; spoken word can be so strong, even without props, set, or movement (and minimal lighting). The story is about a day in the life of a small Welsh town, starting with their dreams one night, then through the following day, until they go to bed once again. Other than the challenge of tracking so many different characters, it was interesting to have so many stories, of lovers through letters who never meet, an apparently-obedient husband reading about poisoners, a blind sea captain listening the the children in the schoolyard, a woman widowed twice still henpecking both of her dead husbands. There's lots of alliterative language, and other word play, and it was just thrilling to listen.
