A friend took me to the quilt exhibit at the MFA. There are some lovely quilts, though many had a very different sensibility compared to modern quilt makers, using fabrics other than cotton, or larger pieces, and more complicated quilting patterns. My favorite was one with a log-cabin pattern, made out of velvets and silks, with an embroidered plant in the middle of each. Beautiful, and an amazing amount of work.
I helped a bit with setting up the space Danger!Awesome is moving into, which mean I'm now sure of where the new space is. Also, met some interesting people, and learned more about Muslim practices today, both around Ramadan and Friday services, and about halal meat. Side question: how is it that the Muslim community in and around Boston can support so many halal butcher shops, and the Jews can't seem to manage to support more than one in Brookline and one in Newton?
The situation in Gaza and Israel is complicated. I have lots of thoughts about it, but in the end, they're not going to make a difference, and I'm not interested in political debate. It's already exhausting just following the news, one thing after another.
There's a sign in a roped-off area next to the library: "Ground Under Construction". Which is true for pretty much everywhere under the planet, given there's ground under everywhere we've explored.
A friend is working on her Hebrew. I've been tutoring her, helping with her reading skills. It's fun, and it's making me realize that I do know a reasonable amount, that I'm somewhat competent. It feels good.
To consider making next spring: violet syrup, lilac syrup, honeysuckle syrup, salted cherry blossoms.
