Some things about the last n days
Jan. 28th, 2014 10:57 pmI managed to cook multiple dishes for Shabbat. There was a three bean and root veggie soup, pasta baked with red sauce and ricotta, and tuna salad with carrot pickles. There were going to be pierogies sauteed with onions and mushrooms, but I ate them before candlelighting. Oops.
I said I'd be on time for Tehillah, and I would have been, had the location not changed at the last minute (I still haven't gotten that email.... perhaps I'm not on the list?). I realized that I just don't deal as well with musaf, not ideologically, but sociologically: lots more people there, crowding the space, chatting, dealing with kids, etc, and I lose my focus. Ah, well.
Sunday was pretty much all at Artisan's Asylum: I'd signed up for both front desk shifts (making up for the ones I didn't take over MLK weekend), and the person who signed up for the overlapping middle shift called in sick, so it was all me for 8+ hours (the + because someone had visitors waiting at the front desk right as I was locking up, and I didn't feel it appropriate to leave them unattended until their host arrived). And that was followed by a quarterly meeting, so it ended up being more than half the day there. On the plus side: I remembered to bring food, and someone brought bought food specifically because it had a hechsher on it, which was really nice. I also got a decent start on another hat between slow times on desk and the meeting.
Yesterday I finally did something that had been on my to-do list for months. It took about 5 minutes, of course, which is par for the course. Wholly invisible to anyone but me is the huge ball of procrastination those 5 minutes were wrapped up in.
Today I got to walk through the park by the Science Museum, and walk over the pedestrian/bike bridge to Charlestown Square. I wish I'd brought my camera, but of course, all the dull dead grass green and leafless plants aren't so pretty. I should explore again once the season turns.
I have a hacking cough, which is unpleasant. It may be some form of con crud (I first noticed the beginning tickles of sore throat late last week, while my last day at Arisia was Sunday, so if it had a 5-day incubation period, maybe), or I'm just lucky. I hope it passes quickly; it's been a few days now, and it's not fun. Of note: beet pickles and their juice feel lovely on the throat when it's sore.
