Farm share, week 9
Jul. 31st, 2013 07:01 pm- a pickling cucumber (I aimed for a small one, assuming the big ones are more bitter)
- a summer squash (I chose a zucchini, just because)
- two Japanese eggplants
- a bunch of chard
- five ounces of minuscule thinned beets and their greens
- five ounces of basil
- a quart of tomatoes (generic red ones from the field, but still, tomatoes!)
- two heads of lettuce (I chose Boston style heads)
- ten ears of corn!
First thoughts: tomato-corn salad with feta, possibly also cucumber and lettuce; sauteed chard and onions (possibly into a quiche or with some other starch); roast the eggplant and zucchini with some basil. Also, once the corn is cut off the cob, use the corn bones to make corn stock (corn chowder for Shabbat, perhaps?)
