This goes to a taxi driver out this afternoon on Mem Drive. He was the first car at the red light, in the right-hand lane. The light turns green, he does not go far (of course, this is a day when I'm running late), and I think he's trying to make a left to go over the river. Stupid, but not unknown, by any means. What elevated this beyond run-of-the-mill stupidity was that the guy really wanted to make a U-turn in the middle of traffic, at an intersection on Mem Drive (the one with River St.)... and did

I'm going to point to this post next time someone accuses me of making up my one Boston-driving story. :-)

I'm not really used to the "big fast chaotic" style of city driving. A friend from Boston was trying to convince me that Boston really wasn't that bad. We were on some significant street (I can't say which) where I personally witnessed the U-turn-from-right-lane trick, across 3 lanes of traffic. Silly me; I thought the turn signal indicated an impending lane change or, at worst, left turn from right lane. I was so wrong.
