Date: 2009-04-19 09:55 pm (UTC)*laugh* I have trouble making several of them scan, actually.
why isn't the song of the red sea put in here?
Something I've wondered about too, but never found an answer.

Date: 2009-04-19 10:05 pm (UTC)(And with so many of them, I can't imagine how it really would have been enough. This year's particular peeve: Mt. Sinai. Without the subsequent giving of the Torah, it's just another mountain on the 40 year tour...)
It hadn't really popped so clearly for me about the song of the sea until this year. It's in every morning service, so it's not obscure or anything. The only thing that comes to mind is that the intro to that is about Moses and the people of Israel singing, and the haggadah is big on avoiding Moses. Or perhaps it's about focusing on the more positive side, rather than the Egyptians drowning?

Date: 2009-04-19 10:28 pm (UTC)I rationalize that one by imagining that we could have had an encounter with God there even if it didn't involve the torah.
Shirat ha-yam: I wondered about the Moshe thing too, but it would be so trivial to leave off the introductory clause that I don't think that's it. We could sing the song without singing about the song.
