Of course, staying in a regular hotel with fridges in the rooms is
completely doable. Sometimes it's nice to have kosher food prepared on
site without bringing appliances of my own.

  • Lathrop House, a kosher bed and breakfast in Springfield, MA
  • Admiral Weaver Inn, a kosher bed and breakfast in Newport, RI
  • Harris' Happy Hunter Hideaway, a kosher bed and breakfast in Hunter, NY (2 hours north of the GW Bridge), which includes 3 kosher meals/day in the room rate
  • Isabella Freedman Retreat Center in Falls Village, CT, which includes 3 kosher meals/day in the room rate (additional cost if attending any of the formal programming)
  • kosher (chassidische) Arlington Hotel in Bethlehem, NH (I couldn't find a web site, nor have I called to verify they're still there)

Anyone know of others?

there are many others... google "kosher bed and breakfast" and you get lists of them in all sorts of places. there's one in SC or GA (?) i saw the website of, which i'd really like to go to. i've thought about going to a B&B with my girl but i'm nervous about whether or not we'd have to be really closeted in order to be comfortable there. like, are they all run by right-wing ultra-orthodox folks or what? hm...

I've been to the one in RI, and the lady there didn't seem ultra-ortho at all. The rabbi who's there most (all?) mornings to supervise/light the stove is ortho himself, but extremely open to people of pretty much any denomination. It's part of trying to keep the Newport community alive; it's a very small community if there aren't tourists or military personnel.

No clue about the other places; my guess is that the Isabella Freedman Retreat wouldn't have any issues whatsoever, the chassidishe hotel would, and the other B&Bs could go either way.

wait... you can stay at isabella freedman as you would at a B&B? without going to one of their programs? i've been there a bunch of times, and they're great. but i didn't know you could go just to hang out and stay overnight.

thanks re: the one in RI...

I haven't been to Isabella Freedman, but the way they talk about the rates, it sounds like you can just go and stay and use the facilities, without additional stuff (sort of like a smaller and more Jewish Kripalu). Of course, I don't know whether they tend to block off space for people who are going for the programming...
