[Israel] Two more signs
Nov. 13th, 2008 02:21 pmI don't remember seeing these around back when I lived in the city, and they're everywhere now, on every electrical pyramid (? pole isn't right, but the geometric term doesn't feel right either).

I mentioned them to Shifra (one of my hosts), and she told me that they didn't used to have the signs and extra bits on them, until some drunk person tried to climb one, got hurt, and sued the city. Sounded to me like the US custom of egregious litigation rather than personal responsibility is spreading... Anyway, now there are signs everywhere reminding everyone there is the Danger of Death! all over the place. I suppose it fades into the background for residents, but for me, it was a reminder every time (use time wisely! live to the fullest! there is the Danger of Death at every corner!)

I had to photograph this; it swirled up too many emotions not to. I feel that Jonathan Pollard shouldn't still be languishing in jail, especially given his health woes, but there's also all of the people in Guantanamo who haven't even had due process. And there's the cycles of prisoner exchanges in Israel with its neighbors, too.
I'm not going to be able to make this more coherent, so I'll just leave it as it is, unfinished bits that don't really go together.
