I know, I'm nuts. But this week's winter share pickup is the last before Turkey Day, so I'm actually thinking of another bulk order. As previously, if you have interest in anything, please let me know. I have to call in an order by Wednesday morning (latest) for it to arrive this Friday. Interestingly, they now say I can specify washed or unwashed (which lasts longer, but, boy, there was a lot of dirt on those potatoes and carrots).

All the options are listed below. My current thoughts are that garlic is always useful (and getting a pound or two means I can make lots and lots of roasted garlic), and another half bushel of onions would likely get me through to the next winter share delivery (I'm not done with the last half bushel, but I'm close, and have a couple of large meals coming up). Everything else is less likely for me unless someone wants to split stuff. The most appealing things for this are sweet potatoes, parsnips, purple potatoes (or fingerlings), or possibly butternut squashes.

Sweet Potatoes - $28 per half bushel
Carrots - $25 per 25 lb bag
Celeriac - $32 per 25 lb bag
Garlic - $1 per bulb or $7 per lb
Cabbage, Red or Green - $25 per bushel
Onions, Yellow and Red - $28 per half bushel
Potatoes, Red, Keuka Gold, Fingerling or All Blue - $28 per half bushel
Butternut Winter Squash - $30 per bushel box
Parsnips - $32 per 25 lb bag
Rutabaga - $20 per 25 lb bag
Turnips, Red, Gold, Purple Top, or Hakurei - $20 per 25 lb bag

I would love some winter squash, maybe as much as half a dozen (ten pounds ish?) How many are in a bushel?

We went gleaning at Parker Farm, but his squash crops failed.

Unclear how many pounds in a bushel, exactly. Based on the Old Farmer's Almanac, somewhere in the 50-60 lb/bushel range, though I know that the farm uses a standard bushel box (not sure how many pounds of squash it would fit).

Given how things went last time, I'm not willing to get things unless they're to be evenly divided; my scale doesn't do heavy weights, which makes it a nuisance unless aiming for equal parts.

I read about your gleanings, and they sounded yummy.

Excellent icon use! :-)

If you want an excuse to get butternuts, I'd take a half bushel. I'm not sure what I'd do with it all, but we have a basement and I really like butternut. If you decide you don't want to deal with them, that's ok too.

I've thought about it some more, and I'm feeling a bit inundated with orange veg after all. Would you still be interested in splitting a bushel for the December 7 pickup?
