The Library at Wadi ben Dagh
Jul. 26th, 2007 02:46 pmThere's an exhibit of wonderful pieces by M.L. Van Nice at the Bromfield Gallery, displaying some of the knowledge of this long-lost Library, including "Preliminary Studies of the Iconography of a Cheesit," "The Canon: Unfinished Study for an Account of Tedium," and "Observations of a Commonly Overlooked Property of Air". Also spoons, fish that must swim, a screen with maps of the seventh journey to where the cow jumped over the moon on one side and books that never were on the other (Pandora's Book has a key....), boxes within boxes with ever-smaller four-suited cutouts all lined with Alice leading to an innermost Red Queen, astonishing displays of all sorts of interesting and gorgeous things (in so many different media; I am in awe of the talent required).
The show closes this Sunday; well worth the trip, if you can make it in time.
(And if not, I found out that the artist shows work during Somerville Open Studios.)
