Boston Organics, and other food notes
May. 9th, 2007 08:08 pmLarge box, one third fruit.
And a dozen eggs. I'm hungry, but it's so hot I don't want to cook much. Perhaps the strawberries will strengthen me enough to face making something :-)
Oh, and it's very cool that they're offering Taza Chocolate, the only locally-made chocolate I know of (they import the beans, making the chocolate in Somerville.
I passed a bank of vending machines today, and did a double-take: one of them was selling slices of hot pizza! There were perhaps half a dozen choices of toppings, the slices cooked while you waited. That's a first for me.
I tried Trader Joe's cranberry lemonade, which the people in the store told me was "very tart." Well, not so much. It's good, but not tart enough for me.
So I won't misplace it again, the recipe for milchig meatloaf (from Dina, years ago). I'd never have made this had I not eaten the results a number of times first; it's really good.
For an 8 inch x 8 inch pan, mix together 16 ounces of cottage cheese, a roughly chopped onion, half a package of onion soup mix, 3 cups of cornflakes (measured uncrushed, then crush before adding), 1 cup of ground nuts (grind at home; the pre-ground nuts are too fine), a stick of melted margarine (I just use vegetable oil), and 2 eggs. Put the last two ingredients in last. Once blended, put in pan and bake 45 minutes to an hour at 350 F.
Also, the lilacs are coming into bloom. They smell wonderful.
- a bunch of collards
- a leek
- a medium head of red cabbage
- a small bunch of broccoli
- a bunch of scallions
- a cucumber (the kind that feels waxed, not my favorite; I hope I figure out something to do with it before it turns to mush)
- two medium zucchinis
- a bag of green beans
- four ears of corn
- eight ounces of strawberries
- a mango
- three kiwis
- six oranges
- two grapefruit
