I don't understand: if the institution I own a bond from can send me a statement with all the information on it, why would I need to have the original bond to be able to redeem it? That's so last century. (Other than wringing a 2% fee out of me, that is.)

Last night was the first of the Passover food acquisition. I got far too many kinds of interesting cheese, more because I was shopping while hungry than because I think I'll be able to get through pounds and pounds of it, no matter how many meals I host. Of the new and plusful foods I've seen so far: pome-grape juice, apple (chicken and turkey) sausages, andouille sausages (again with the chicken and turkey), date-apricot spread, and interesting-looking port (I got the more affordable port, thinking I'll make boozy dried fruit). Still no nut butters, which is strange, since it would hold the matza together so nicely.

I have lots left to get, but I feel a lot calmer about it all now, since most of what's left is regular proteins (chicken, fish, turkey) and produce, plus more paper (well, probably plastic, but whatever) goods. Which is not to say that I've got a handle on the cleaning yet...

The non k-for-P stuff that was left was on mega-discount, which is how I ended up with three wheels of Camembert. Lucky the weather is changing so bread and cheese (and wine?) sorts of lunches/dinners sound pretty appealing.

Odd art award of the day: Earthen Art is "woodburned fungi & nature art" by Kim Colarik. She prepares the fungus known as artist's conk (sounds like it should be some kind of radical inspiration, really), then draws on it.

Some bags have zipper closures; other bags are all zipper.

Ah yes great dinner combination.

Maybe a little arugula and tomatoes with the bread and cheese, or perhaps some slices of non-citrus fruit (not that I have much of that), and it's pretty much perfect.

Where have you been doing your shopping? My usual "good" store seems to have seriously cut their kosher section, and I ended up with much less than I was expecting when I went shopping yesterday.

I went to the Stop & Shop in Allston, the one by the Mass Pike, which had a pretty good selection of the stuff I expected to find there (and one or two things I didn't; there's more prepared stuff in the freezer cases than I remember, plus some shelf-stable meals), and the Butcherie. I'm debating going out to the new 'kosher strip' on Comm Ave in Newton, just to see what's there, but that may get nixed when I finally start panicking about available time.

What stuff are you looking for?

Still working on that. I know I need cream cheese, and gefilte fish - both of those should be buyable locally, assuming I can find the cream cheese, which I usually can, although my "usual" store didn't this time (Shaws, Western Ave., Allston). I got frozen chicken pieces, though, and a few liquids to bake them in/with, and a jar of chicken soup. And cottage cheese, for lunches. I should probably get more snack sorts of things, and some liquid to drink, and the sausages sound lovely; I've gotten deli and turkey/chicken hot dogs before, but couldn't find them yet this year. I tend to get my veggies and fruits when I get back from the seders.

I saw both of those at the Butcherie; I wasn't tracking carefully enough to notice them at Stop & Shop, since I wasn't looking for cream cheese or gefilte fish. I haven't quite decided whether I'll be using the freezer this year or not (I'm leaning towards yes), so I haven't gotten freezer-stuff yet.

I tend to get a bunch of produce before the holiday, then replenish midway through; I use a lot of them.

My aunt got some at Quincy Market, if that helps.

That bag idea is wild. I can't decide if I like it or not.

I definitely don't like the fungus, but to each their own. :)

The zipper bags are just cool, to be able to deconstruct them that way.

I'm not really into the fungus, but was gifted with one....
