+ Clearing most of my sidewalk with that mighty ice-clearing tool, the workboot. We'd run out of ice melt stuff Friday, but the ice was riddled enough that I could hit it with my heel, and the newly-exposed edges got more amenable to breakage by the time I'd worked my way back to them. It took over an hour, but it was incredibly satisfying.
- Wet workboots and socks.
- Not making it to yoga class at the gym.
+ Clearing my car off.
- Not being able to free my car from the ice below it.
+ French toast from snazzy breads (green olive and hot cherry pepper; cranberry, orange, and pistachio).
- Setting off the smoke detector while doing so. I turned on the fan above the stovetop, opened the door to the porch and a window, set up another fan, and Theora kindly fanned the smoke detector, and it eventually calmed down, enough so that I could close the door before too many flakes from the snow shower made their way in.
+ Returning a futon to Queue.
- Trying to figure out what to put in that space instead.
- Not having (or perhaps not knowing where I have) allen wrenches.
+ Making it to the play in time.
- Not walking there.
+ Walking back.
+ Seeing the play with Breedingimperf and Carolyn (who also ran into a high school friend and her aunt).
+ Staying for the talkback session.
- The closest of my bank's ATMs is broken, long enough to have acquired a number of annoyed notes on the official notice.
+ Making dinner for two (including the green salad I didn't get around to on Shabbat with sunflower seeds instead of nuts; it's a keeper).
- Salt notwithstanding, car still persisting in the state of car-sicle.
+ More time to talk, walking.
+ Being walked back as well.
- Not making it to the gathering I'd planned to attend afterward, given the car issue and the location.
- Realizing that something's gone wrong with my thermostat, since I can't override the current settings (my usual plan is to keep it cool, then override when I'm actually home). Not sure whether replacing the batteries will do it (since there's no 'replace batteries' warning on), but that's first line of defense. Until then, even more layers than usual...

Though it might not look like it, on balance, it was a pretty good day. If I can't get my car out, I am inconvenienced today, but won't need it until next week after that, so I can hope it'll melt by then.

edit and one weird thing: pulling a whole toothpick out of my sock.

Weird about the car. [livejournal.com profile] vapourtrail posted about the same thing. I think she used 'hot water' to melt the ice, and she said it took like two hours to do, but she *had* to use the car.

I can't even imagine.

I thought about hot water, but my car's not even parked in front of my house, but down a side street, and schlepping pots of hot water out the door, down the steps, across the main street and down the side street just doesn't appeal. I did read that adding salt to the hot water keeps it from refreezing quickly...

Current thoughts include calling AAA, getting kitty litter to put under the wheels for traction, or just ignoring it.

The whole kitty litter thing sounds awesome, and if you do that, I want pictures, but I would probably just ignore it. Then again, I'm not the one stuck without a car. : /

Apparently non-clumping kitty litter gives good traction. Not likely to be pictures even if I used it, though, since I'm still pre-digital camera. Ignoring is definitely my path on this one.

Does this mean you won't be able to come to lunch today (she says anxiously)?

Argh! I knew there was something I was losing track of!

Any chance you're driving over....? Otherwise, I will likely be late, since I haven't showered, and I'm not sure of the bus schedule today.

I don't think I knew you two knew each other. *laugh*

This internet thing is pretty entertaining, no?

The french toast sounds yummy.

How enviable it is that you have measurable days that, even after the minuses, remain full of accomplishment of tasks, good food, the company of loved ones, outside excursions, and entertainment.

With today's slushening, I was able to get my car out this afternoon, though there remained an unchanged spot of solid and slick ice on which I slipped, almost causing me to fall while carrying the groceries I was finally able to procure.

The French toast was even good later; using good bread makes a big difference.

I'm very lucky to have a very good life. Not perfect (whose is? and I suspect perfect would get boring), but good, with room for change, growth, improvement :-).

Congrats on getting your car out! I'm ignoring my car until Friday, when I'm hoping it'll be easy to move. (Not only do I have errands I use the car for, I'm due to have the car inspected before the end of the month. I have to say, having a winter month that's really short is not the best for car inspections.)

I'm glad your slip didn't cause a fall; that must've been an adrenaline-filled moment.
