Not the first time for me, either. I'm just annoyed at myself because the not-full-set of crystal glasses is one of the few keepsakes I got after she died.

Hehe. Yeah. No, really. My mother always says that if you accidentally break a glass it's good luck. She never got mad at me or my brother if we accidentally broke something.

All of her yente friends always say the same thing (on the rare occassion that something breaks at a dinner party or something).

So don't feel bad.

I would feel a lot less bad if this weren't the crystal I inherited from my grandmother, that was already not a complete set.

On the other hand, I'll take the good luck :-).

(My mom never got mad, but she could be a bit... uptight until whatever-it-was had gotten cleaned up without any splinters making it into any feet.)

That's upsetting. I understand. I'm sorry.

Whenever glass would break, my mother would first clear the area of other people, concerned for children's feet, and then she would clean it all up thoroughly. I feel very alone and uncared for now when I have to deal with breakages all by myself.

Wow. Loss of items that represent a loved one and long-gone childhood. Too much weepability for such a short entry.

My mom would do the same thing. At least I was wearing shoes when this happened, and it was pretty much contained to a corner, so fairly easy to clean up after.

I've pinged a friend who may be able to help me replace the glass, so I feel like I'm being proactive. But yes, it's about the memories more than the object itself. (Not that I got to use these glasses when I was a child: they were too "good" for kid usage.)
