The last of the regular farm share deliveries, which is surprisingly low on winter squash (not that I'm complaining!). The winter share will start November 3; according to the woman running the distribution site, winter share subscribers need to bring a check for $100 to the first distribution, which will be from the farm's truck (parked somewhere in the lot behind Harvest, where the regular distribution is), and we'll be getting pre-packed boxes, rather than picking things out ourselves (convenient particularly if it's very cold).

  • a huge rutabaga (I got one that was on the smaller side, and it's still huge.)
  • a stalk of Brussels sprouts
  • ten potatoes (mixed sizes and skin colors, including yellow/brown, red, and purple)
  • six peppers (I chose light green long Italian ones over dark green bell ones.)
  • six baby bok choy (the medium green with light green stems kind, not the dark green with white stems kind)
  • a bag of spinach (old enough that it's for cooking, not salad)
  • a bunch of collards
  • a head of lettuce (green leaf)
  • a head of radicchio
  • a bunch of parsely
  • two chile peppers
  • five red onions
  • three long daikons (the size of large-ish carrots)

  • fruit share: five yellow-green apples (no idea what kind, but large, with matte skin, and thinly crunchy and sweet; which is to say, just about perfect for what I want just now. I wish I knew what kind they are.)

Boston Organics small box, part fruit.

  • a head of cauliflower
  • four zucchinis
  • three large leeks (grown in VT/Canada)
  • five sweet potatoes
  • a pineapple
  • four oranges
  • ten (!) plums

Also a small vial of raspberry-infused cider vinegar, which is alas not certified kosher (I called, hoping...). Who would like it? (The ingredients are organic: (local) raspberries, raw cane sugar, cider vinegar.)

Also, I can get some staples as bulk add-on orders! Very cool. Currently offered: five-pound bags of red potatoes, russet potatoes, or carrots, and three-pound bags of yellow onions (Why should it be less for the onions when they're so useful?).

I think a stir-fry is in order, especially since I still have last week's carrots. Also yet another huge pot of orange and green soup variant using many greens (including last week's), winter squash and/or sweet potatoes, onions, garlic, hot sauce, ground turkey, and rice. I'm thinking of steaming the Brussels sprouts, then cooking them with caramelized onions. As for the rest, I'm not yet sure.
