[commute] In which I am not awake
Sep. 1st, 2006 10:10 amI was halfway to the T this morning when I realized the leftover pizza designated for today's lunch breakfast was still sitting on the counter. Great. I decided not to go back, despite my sudden longing for just that pizza. I got to the T and used my pass in the turnstiles. Well, tried to use it. It took far too many tries, and even going over to be waved through, until it finally clicked in my brain that not only is it September 1, but this also means I should be using a new pass. Which I had... sitting on my desk at home. D'oh.
So I walked home, composing this slightly grumbly post in my head (yes, including this line), and retrieved the missing things. The rest of the commute went smoothly, and I can't complain too much, given that it meant I got in more of a walk this morning.
And this was far, far better than yesterday morning's commute. An older (50s? 60s?) woman was standing by the doors and started to pass out onto the man sitting in the last seat. He got up and offered her his seat, someone else took her arm and supported her, but she insisted she was fine. The guy helping her asked if she were diabetic, and she said no. She stood up again, not taking the seat. Except that a couple of minutes later she started keeling over again, and the guy helped, again asking if she were diabetic (same response). He helped her lie down as he called for someone to push the emergency button. A voice came crackling out, asking what the problem was. "Medical emergency!" Where were we?* "First car!" We were pulling into Kendall at that point, and a T worker came over as she started sitting up again, saying she was fine. Another woman told her her hands were clammy, and she was not fine. She was escorted off the train to go sit down. The train driver checked that the situation was under control, and we continued on the route. I hope she's ok, that it wasn't anything serious.
* I was a bit surprised that the buttons didn't include location information when used. Maybe it's because the T isn't so up to date?

Date: 2006-09-03 01:01 pm (UTC)(I admit to rarely taking a seat so I don't have to break attention from what I'm reading/crocheting/whatevering at each stop if I don't want to...)
