Bike ride, and two links
Jul. 30th, 2006 08:29 pmI finally got myself out of the house this afternoon (it's stupid how hard that can be, even when the weather is so lovely) for a bike ride. It's the first one in a while (I've been wangling some tandem recumbent trike rides :-), the first with new bike shoes, and the longest one I've managed this year (out to the end of the Minuteman trail, which is about 25.5 miles round trip). I pushed myself; I want to be able to do the overnight ride without any issues.
Notes: I saw a bicycle built for 4! Very neat. (Though I can imagine it being a bit of a nuisance to turn, and to park, and to coordinate schedules to have enough riders.)
The bad: I had to stop a number of times, not because I was tired (well, I was, some, but mostly not enough to need to stop), but because
(a) my lower back was hurting (stretching while standing (not on the bike) and sitting helped; I'm not sure if it's because of the angles I ride at (due to the handlebar style), or I'm out of shape/too overweight.), and
(b) my feet were going to sleep (only the ball of the feet and forward to the toes; and it wasn't quite asleep, but it was closer to that than anything else). I'm hoping it's something to do with the toe clips being tighter around these shoes, which can be fixed by getting new toe clips.
The Wellcome Trust, which is a library of medical photography (mostly of tiny things made visible, or stock-type photos with a medical theme, not so much with the blood and gore).
I shouldn't be surprised that the British Library has not only classic documents digitally available, but also lots of less famous documents, such as cook books through the ages (and on all sorts of other topics), plus free podcasts.
