That pain that came on Friday afternoon is still with me, still feeling like some internal thing near my right hip. I've been moving carefully, because some kinds of moves/bends/stretches hurt more than others (depending on hip movement/placement, I think, some). Yesterday afternoon it hurt more, and now I'm wondering if that had to do with having eaten a full meal. (Of course, the hypochondriac in me started worrying about things like burst appendices and such.) I called the doctor who was on call last night, and he thought it sounded like either a pulled muscle or a slipped disk, with the pain deferred somehow over to the right. Take some Midol, apply heat, come in if it gets worse or if it's not getting better in a couple of days. Which may be all I need, but it's certainly already messed with plans, and part of me is still certain it's something else, that I'll have to go in and have surgery (See hypochondriac, above.)

In the meantime, there was a note on the front door yesterday morning saying that they're going to be power-washing the building tomorrow, so (a) all windows have to be closed, and (b) I have to get everything off my porch. Which is a lot of stuff, most of it still damp. I think I need to get a tarp to put down in the kitchen. (Plus there's some stuff to throw away, and I should acquire trash bags.) Not the best timing.

Shopping has to happen anyway; I'm out of too many crucial things, like onions, garlic, rice, black beans, dish soap, all sorts of stuff. As long as I move carefully, I think I can get it all done. I might end up taking a sick day tomorrow, though...

If it is a disk problem or a pulled muscle, I'd recommend trying ice intead of heat.

Huh. When I last took first aid (a very long time ago), the general opinion was ice for the first 24 hours, heat after that. (Also rest, compression, and elevation, but I only managed rest; the others don't quite work with a torso problem.)

Refuah shlemah! Sounds uncomfortable and worrisome, and the timing of the other matters doesn't help. Maybe a good chiropractor could yield some results faster, or at least offer diagnostics sooner.

Thank you.

I ran into my downstairs neighbor this afternoon, who is not a medical person, but is a black belt in at least one martial art, and teaches, etc. He thought I might've pulled an oblique muscle, in the lower abdomen. That makes more sense to me than slipped disk, and still fits with the doctor's opinion. Pain drugs haven't helped, but mostly the pain's not so bad. If it's still at the same level tomorrow, though, I think I'll get an appointment with the doctor.

And I've managed to get just about everything done today that I needed to (laundry, most of the shopping, Shabbat dishes done, everything off the porch, empty the dehumidifiers). Yay!

You are clever to have thought of your neighbor as a resource. What kind of doctor is the doctor you've consulted and with whom you might set an appointment?

I'm impressed by how much you've accomplished!

Not so much clever as using circs to complain with intent :-).

The doctor I talked to was whoever was on call; I have no idea what his specialty was. I'd make an appointment with my regular doctor, except that she's on vacation this week, so it would be whoever in the practice is covering for her. A GP, in any case, unless I end up with an NP instead.

???

Hope this afternoon's appointment is fruitful.

I happened to run into him, and since I felt like complaining about the pain anyway, I figured he might have some ideas about what happened.

And indeed, the nurse practitioner has declared it a pulled muscle. 600 mg ibuprofen 2x/day, plus heat, and hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll be fine.

I'm glad your neighbor was there to offer diagnostics and comfort.

I hope it takes less than a couple of weeks for you be all better.

Thanks. The ibuprofen is already making a difference; I can walk at my usual pace, rather than a slow, pained, shuffle.
