Feb. 23rd, 2006 10:37 amAt the Butcherie this morning I noticed that there are now three brands of kosher Indian meals (the shelf-stable kind in pouches): Tasty Bite has been joined by Kohinoor and Kitchens of India (which also has non-kosher products). I know a lot of Indian food is easily made kosher, but I'm a bit surprised that there are multiple Indian firms interested in kosher certification (both the new ones have the hechsher of Kosher Inspection Service of India).

Date: 2006-02-23 04:24 pm (UTC)Huh. I know that there are lots of Indians who are vegetarians; I'm surprised they'd care about kosher certification (if they're not Jewish), since they're both labeled vegetarian.

Date: 2006-02-23 07:03 pm (UTC)The surprising part to me is that Indian companies would find it worth their while. I mean, I assume that they have a domestic market already, and the majority of the USian market doesn't keep kosher... Maybe the rabbi running the certification is very proactive in finding clients...
Opensource Indian Cuisine Project
Date: 2006-04-11 04:04 pm (UTC)I noticed your blog! Excellent work! I could really use your help! I am working on an opensource project that covers all the cuisines in the world. I am currently working on the Indian Cuisine section. The problem is, I have to write about Indian Cuisine from the outside perspective, since I am American and only eat Indian Cuisine here at the local Indian Resturant! LOL.
I would love for someone who actually knows something about Indian Cuisine to help me make it the most authentic and accurate as psossible!
Let me know what you think so far:

So far... am I even close? I would love to give you full creative control over this section if interested. You could be my Indian Cuisine Admin... lol, if you feel like it.
The web site uses wiki technology (like Wikipedia) where anyone can edit it and make changes live on the site.
Please take a look at it and let me know what you think and if this project interests you any.

Re: Opensource Indian Cuisine Project
Date: 2006-04-11 10:51 pm (UTC)I have little to no expertise in Indian cuisine, since I keep kosher and there are no local Indian restaurants that are kosher, however much I wish there were one. I regret that I can't help you there. As for the rest of your project, I'll be interested to check out the wiki once it's not in the throes of preparation for Passover.
