Tatnuck Bookseller is closing in Worcester, keeping only their Westborough shopping center location. I'm sad; I remember when they started, a little independent bookseller actually in Tatnuck Square, slowly expanding retail space to the basement, to the storefront next door, and so on. That's what I think of first, since I've only been to their current location a handful of times (I still miss the little store it used to be.). I can't imagine it will be nicer in a strip mall.... I wonder why they're closing.

Wednesday I made a lot of salmon with wasabi sauce, so that's done. Last night I started challah, but the other cooking was for motza'i Shabbat, which left a lot to do this morning, most of which I did do. To wit: I roasted beets, delicata squash, and zucchini with onion. I sauteed onions, crimini mushrooms, and red chard. I made challah loaves. I made a black bean dip, not my usual, but with black beans, homemade tomato sauce, and hot sauce. Still to do this afternoon: make butterscotch brownies (actually milchig ones, a rarity for me) and slices of polenta topped with (tomato sauce? and) basil, roasted zukes, and shredded parmesan. Also, do one load of laundry (a must due to motza'i Shabbat overnight guests) and clear off the kitchen table.

I got a quarterly magazine from $University (where I went to grad school). On the back cover, their quest for donations starts with "The success of our students is defined by alumni participation." (Bolding theirs.) Which I read as "you only turn out to be a successful student if as an alum you give us money." Which is not the best way to get donations, I think. (Plus, they include the definition of alumnus/i as "one who has attended or graduated from" an institution, which I have two nits to pick about. A. In common usage, it's graduating from whichever school that makes an alum, not just attendiing, but of course, this increases their donor base. B. They forgot alumna/ae. Alumnus isn't "one", it's male, not gender neutral.

Why summer is not my favorite season: last night I walked home, temperatures in the mid 30s (F), and overheated so much that I had to take my coat off.

Thanks to Fetteredwolf, I've started a walk to Rivendell with a fellowship, and my very un-elven self is Legolas. Well, I did shoot an arrow once, and I know how to braid my hair... (As of last night, I'm where Hobbiton is hidden as the slopes rise and fall.)
