I really did buy the vicious aluminum foil: I got another aluminum foil cut this week. Yes, on the foil, not the cutting edge of the box. Second time for this roll, too. (Much less woe than last week's cooking mishap of using the peeler on the end of my left pinkie, anyway. Then, there was a lot of bleeding, but I kept it all out of the food, so it was still edible.)

The view through the hazy plexiglass windows on the commuter rail made me think of landscapes of memory or dream, not quite the world as we know it.

Up for grabs: a 2006 appointment calendar, a navy blue 8.5 x 11 bound book. It's pretty nice, but I've got a calendar.

I didn't wear leggings, after two days with them. I felt so light as I started walking to the T. My legs were cold when I got there, but there's something right about having my legs so cold (as long as my feet stay warm :-).

Whee! I got in to work to find I'd won the weekly trivia contest. $25, I think in the form of a gift card or check of some sort.

(Halachic whimsy ahead.)

Then, there was a lot of bleeding, but I kept it all out of the food, so it was still edible.

Which raises an interesting question: would that have treifed the food, treifed the food only for people other than you, or treifed only dairy? (Or did you just mean that the food would have been unpalatable?)

People aren't kosher, of course. Blood left in meat after kashering is ok (you don't have to get every last drop), so blood on its own isn't automatically a problem. While people aren't kosher, mother's milk is parve, not fleishig (I am not making this up), so possibly accidental people-blood is too. Perhaps the food is still kosher if you eat it (just like you don't have to stop eating if you, say, cut your tongue), but it would be treif for anyone else.

I mean b'diaved, of course; you shouldn't plan to do this. :-)

I haven't read up on this, but I believe that the blood would have treifed the food for everyone, whether dairy, meat, or pareve. It's not the same as blood from a mouth injury, in that it's already gotten outside my body, so there's the option to (re)ingest or not, and there's a prohibition on eating blood (which is why I believe that blood on its own would be a problem, because on its own, it's very much avoidable, unlike the case of meat, where we rely on the kashering process to draw as much blood out as possible).

Non-halachah from seen example: a friend cut himself on the challah knife one Shabbat lunch and bled on the challah. We ended up pulling off the part that had been bled on, and ate the rest. Had the food been something liquid, it would be trickier, since it wouldn't stay discrete, and I'm not sure whether it would be nullified in 60.

Ow! Foil cuts hurt! Yes, if there's a way to cut myself, I've probably done it at some point.
Make sure you use antibiotic. I don't know why, but whenever I get myself on foil, the cut never quite heals right otherwise.

I haven't decided whether foil or cardboard cuts hurt more (and no, I'd like not to do comparison tests :-).

Doesn't heal right = scar, or doesn't heal right = something else? So far, both cuts have healed/started healing normally (apparently, anyway).

Doesn't heal right = gets lightly infected, until I do use antibiotic.
Maybe it's just me.

I did not win the portable DVD player for participating in phone training. You are one ahead. :-)

Alas, for DVD viewing that will not be just anywhere.

I will note that this comes after a summer of not winning pairs of Red Sox tickets.

Except for the unhappy foil cuts, fun random stuff.

What is with the evil foil? Is it just like paper cuts, or os there something wrong with the product.

I like the halachic discussion. I like it that it came up as a topic in the first place too.

Yes, breast milk is kosher and parve.

It's nice that you are always giving away things. Very generous. And efficient/not wasteful/helpful to others.

Foil cuts are just like paper cuts. I guess I use foil enough that I was statistically likely to get some; it's just odd I managed it twice in quick succession.

I like the halachic discussion too. You'll have to thank Cellio for having brought it up first, though :-).

Giving stuff away I don't want doesn't feel generous, but efficient. More on the lines of living smaller on the planet, not wasting stuff that's useful to someone, even if not me. Reuse is better than recycle. (Want the calendar? I could leave it for you somewhere if you'd prefer not to meet.)
