Interesting: the form to renew my driver's license has a box to check if you do want to use your SSN as the identifying number; the default is now a different number. Good policy, or reaction to identity theft, I wonder...

Not that I've used my SSN; my dad convinced me not to years ago.

The default changed at least 5 years ago; when I finally moved my license from WA to MA, it was already "not-the-SSN-unless-you-ask". WA had really fun license numbers, though. (First 5 letters of last name, first initial, middle initial, two digits which were 100 - birth year, then 3 characters to disambiguate; * replaced any missing letters.)

Now you've got me thinking about all the different driver's license numbering schemes, like how the states have different car license plate numbering schemes. Such possibilities for permutation problems!
(Not with WA, given that things aren't at all random given the name, but still.)
