There are umbrellas out there that are more than your width in radius; I think they're designed to keep golf carts dry or something. It's not reasonable to use those on crowded sidewalks, really, especially if you're standing around chatting while people are trying to get by. (No, no one's done that, definitely not.)
Agreed though that you're tall enough to be less of a problem ;-).
