Yup, it's Monday
Feb. 14th, 2005 10:14 amI walked to the T at Harvard, getting there at 8:30. I know it's about the worst time for commuting, but I knew something was up when I saw people more than six deep on the platform. I thought about walking to work, but I'd just walked in the opposite direction from work to get to the T. I also thought about going out to Alewife, but was sure I'd miss the train as I went out. It wouldn't be too bad, right?
Wrong. The trains were infrequent, and packed. I couldn't get on the first three that came by. Frustration, all around. To be fair, there were frequent announcements that the trains were delayed in both directions due to an earlier disabled train, with further announcements telling where the inbound and outbound trains were. The most annoying part was how the train announcers were almost yelling at people, and saying there was another train 'right behind'. Which we all knew was false, since the station announcements had already told us that the next train was three stops away.
Finally, I managed to squeeze onto the fourth train, over half an hour after getting to the station. Of course, it was hard just to find a comfortable stance, sardines that we were. I felt badly for the people waiting at Central, the platform there also full.
It's a nice day; I should've walked.
Confirmation it's that day: 11 flower arrangements at the reception desk

Date: 2005-02-14 08:19 am (UTC)The 68 (Harvard-Kendall via Broadway) might have been a win; where were you headed?

Date: 2005-02-14 09:07 am (UTC)It's a large building. And I suspect a lot of people around here would appreciate lollipops!

Date: 2005-02-14 09:09 am (UTC)I work downtown, near the Arlington T stop. I don't know the bus routes at all well, since I get just a plain T pass, the assumption being I'll walk more that way :-)

Date: 2005-02-14 10:25 am (UTC)I get a Combo pass, which gives me more options when things are wacky. During the Red Sox "rolling rally", we went from Copley Place to Cambridge by taking a bus to Andrew and getting on the Red Line there....

Date: 2005-02-14 11:35 am (UTC)Nice workaround going to Andrew. I'm just close enough that if things get wacky, I'll start walking home, checking out Charles/MGH on the way to see if it's worth catching a train there (usually not).
*When I lived in a city that had only buses, I had no problems taking them all over. Somehow when there's buses and trains, I default to the trains.
